This was an absolutely outstanding win with a bonus point and followed on from our big victory last week against the strong Manly side. We are now outright leaders in the Sixers conference.
Our bowling again today was excellent and I must admit I am totally biased, however how good is it to again witness two top leg spinners, Daniel Chillingworth and the skip Nathan Doyle, bowling in tandem and totally bamboozling the opposition taking 3-28 off 16 overs. They are the perfect foil for each other. Dan bowls a traditionally flighted, bouncy, turning leggie, whilst Nathan bowls a little quicker, yet still turns the ball both ways.
We must not forget that the other bowlers put in a sterling effort as well. Glenn Winsor again snared wickets when needed, with good back up from Vikrant Nehru, Matt Wright and that man Ryan Meppem. Ryan was fresh from taking 5 for in 2’s yesterday and he is another spinner not afraid to vary and flight the ball with his offies when warranted. Ed Howitt noted that we have 4 top spinners in PG’s and loves the idea.
Our skip Nathan Doyle must also be complimented on his excellent field placing to all bowlers and he has that knack of placing his boundary riders exactly where needed to stop the boundaries. We then needed a good solid performance from our bats and they excelled.
Or should I say Jamie Bekis and Ryan Tullia were absolutely superb in scoring an opening partnership of 157. Jamie was brutal in his 81 runs off 79 balls (7 fours and 4 sixers) to carry on his brilliant form for the season and he is a delight to watch in action. Special mention must go to Ryan who was 72no (9 fours) when we passed them and to me that was one of the best innings I have seen for a long time.
His Dad Glenn tried to claim that his shots on one knee were copied from him, however he had my deaf ear. In summary this is a potentially (hate that word) brilliant side to watch closely in the coming matches. They have Charlie Stobo as coach and Rob Carruthers as the best manager in cricket for guidance – follow them please.
2) Scores: Mosman all out for 172 in 43 overs (Glenn Winsor 3-48 off 9; Matt Wright 1-32 off 6; Vikrant Nehru 1-16 off 4; Ryan Meppem 1-39 off 8; Nathan Doyle 1-18 off 10; Daniel Chillingworth 2-10 off 6) defeated by Gordon 3 for 174 in 29.3 overs ( Jamie Bekis 81 off 79 balls; Ryan Tullia 72no in 89 balls)
