Thank you to everyone who has followed our 2019-2010 GDCC Awards Presentation. It has been a challenge to keep everything going smoothly and I would like thank Ed Howitt for the time put into producing the videos and keeping the suspense going with the awards.
For those who haven’t caught up with each award, below is a summary. I hope you all enjoyed the awards and we look forward to presenting the actual trophies to the recipients when the time is right.
Player of the Year
The 2019-2020 Player of the year was a TIE
The winners both scored 15 points on the voting point score which accumulated during the season and as voted on by the selectors.
Dave Monaghan
Dave Monaghan award
Due to his standing as the world’s greatest fifth grader, Dave graciously stood down from selection as the Fifth Grade player of the year, however he could not avoid the overall player of the year award.
This is the first time Dave has won this award and is a testament to his consistency over so many seasons with the GDCC.
In addition, Dave was the winner of the NSW Premier Cricket 5th Grade captain of the year, which unfortunately wasn’t able to be awarded live due to the lockdown.
Dave’s season comprised off 322 runs when he would come in at various positions in the middle order depending upon the batting strength of his side for that match. He scored three fifties and contributed to many of the teams wins.
In the bowling, Dave is renowned for knowing when to come into the attack and get that vital breakthrough. He took 23 wickets at 16.48
Congratulations Dave on an excellent season.
Charlie Stobo
Charlie Stobo Award
This is Charlie’s second award for the season after taking out the Brian Taber award for Best all round performance. He was near the top of the standings during the season, but his excellent double against Northern Districts put him in the lead, before Dave Monaghan made a late run to tie his points tally.
During the season, Charlie took 29 first grade wickets as well as scoring 334 runs. Charlie of course is well known for his bowling skills, however a new found confidence in his batting saw him come in at No. 7 for the first-grade team and often when the team was in trouble. An example was the match against Northern Districts where Charlie came in with the score at 5 for 128. He scored a well-made 53 and helped take the side to a score of 265. Charlie then took 5 for 58 in the ND’s innings to help bowl Gordon to victory by a mere 7 runs.
Charlie bowled well in every match he played often pinning down the batsmen to force a wicket a lot of times at the other end. In addition to his 5 wickets against ND’s he also took 4 wickets against Blacktown and 3 wickets on four other occasions.
Congratulations Charlie on an excellent season.

Ed Howitt (Senior) Clubman of the Year
The Clubman of the year is Bob Thomas.
Bob sneaks around from ground to ground watches the cricket but tries to stay away from the “politics” of the club. He is our Director of Junior Development on the executive, club selector and it was Bob that did a lot of chasing to try and get our 6 teams on the field each week.
However, it is the work he has done in building our relationship with the country that has seen us have many country players come to the club over the past few years. It is not just a matter of contacting them, but talking to their parents and ensuring Gordon will look after these players when they come to the city. He has done an exceptional job.
Bert Oldfield Young Clubman of the Year.
The Young Clubman of the year is Tym Crawford.
Tym Crawford – 750 runs
Tym is a past winner and has again made an immense contribution to the club this season. Tym took over as captain of 1st Grade this season and his performances were exceptionally good. Tym also ran our Junior Academy and coached our Green Shield team last season and was heavily involved in our social media area. Tym always is happy to help out the club, and provides insightful feedback to our members.

The Phil Emery award for Green Shield player of the year goes to Tom Chapman
In his second year of Green Shield for the Stags, Tom enjoyed much success, both as a wicketkeeper and top order batsman. In the seven matches played, Tom scored 246 runs, with a top score of 115, and an average of 35.1. As well as his polished batting, Tom’s wicketkeeping was of the highest order. With 10 catches and 4 stumping, he was deservedly rewarded with selection in the U16 State Challenge for the Metropolitan Sixers team.
Apart from Green Shield representation, Tom also played four grade matches for the Stags. He impressed all with his keeping ability and tenacious batting, particularly in his deserved third grade appearance.

The Dick Guy award for Under 21 performances goes to Nathan Doyle.
Nathan had an excellent debut season for the Stags playing first grade throughout the season and captaining the Poidevin Gray team. Nathan was also awarded the 2019 Bradman Scholarship award priding him with financial assistance for the university degree.
In both grade and Poidevin Gray Nathan scored 633 runs and took 32 wickets. He also shared in a record Poidevin Gray partnership with Josh Claridge.

The Brian Taber award for all round performances goes to Charlie Stobo
Charlie has won this award for his performance in taking 29 first grade wickets as well as scoring 334 runs. Charlie Macartney First Grade Player of the Year
The award this season goes to Tym Crawford
Tym had an excellent season scoring 750 runs at an average of 35.71 and taking 14 wickets with his deceptively fast deliveries. Tym started and finished the season well with a score of 169 in Round 2 off 165 balls against Penrith and then another score of 113 off only 72 balls in the final round match.
While Tym scored consistently during the season, he would be the first to say he would have preferred more runs, but that is the pressure of first grade.
Tym took over the captaincy for Round 6 after Harry Evans left for England and did an excellent job leading the team. He showed his leadership from the front attitude when with only 7 runs to score and eight wickets down, he took the ball against Northern districts and removed the last 2 batsman in 2 deliveries.
He is a worthy recipient of the First Grade Player of the Year award.
Ed Howitt 2nd Grade Player of the Year
The award this season goes to Joshua Claridge
Josh joined the club this season from Newcastle and started very well with a century in the opening match against Sutherland at Chatswood. His 117 not out would be the start of five not outs in second grade which is quite a feat for a top order batsman. His 339 runs at an average of 113 of course broke the second-grade average record.
In total Josh scored 553 runs in grade and Poidevin Gray during the season at an overall average of 46.08 and earned him 4 matches in first grade.
He is a worthy recipient of the 2nd Grade Player of the Year award.
Graham King Third Grade Player of the Year
The award this season goes to Dan Stickland
Dan Stickland is a club man and team man. Dan started playing for Gordon 9 seasons ago and has consistently performed for the club which has included 4 first grade games.
Dan started the season in second grade, however a lean run in his first three games saw him leading the third-grade attack for the match against Campbelltown. Dan’s 5 for 31 saw the ghosts dismissed for 135 and an eventual victory for Gordon. Dan had a couple more games in seconds but then settled into thirds to try and get them into the semi-finals. While this didn’t happen it wasn’t because of the 100% effort given by Dan every time he puts on the Gordon cap. He also passed 200 wickets for the club during the season.
He is a worthy recipient of the 3rd Grade Player of the Year award.
Phil Bovey Fourth Grade Player of the Year
The award this season goes to Rahul Krishna
Rahul had an excellent season scoring 371 runs @30.92 and taking 15 wickets. Rahul was promoted to third grade for the last 3 matches of the season.
Who will forget his magnificent innings against Parramatta at Merrylands when he came in at 3 for 13, which soon became 4 for 15 chasing 238 in a one-day game. Rahul went on to have partnerships with Shiv Rana, Sam Schembri-Green and Nathan Squiera to score 127 not out. Gordon won the game scoring 6 for 241 off 49.4 overs.
He is a worthy recipient of the 4th Grade Player of the Year award
Rob Lowing Fifth Grade Player of the Year
The award this season goes to Hayden Robertson.
Hayden had an excellent season taking 30 wickets at an excellent average of 11.67 with his medium fast deliveries.
Hayden took 4 for 39, 4 for 31 and 4 for 25 in the last three games before the final round was washed out.
He is a worthy recipient of the 5th Grade Player of the Year award.

Recognition awards
Second Grade batting average
Joshua Claridge has broken a long standing record for the best 2nd grade batting average in the history of the club. Josh scored 339 runs (minimum for award is 300 runs) in second grade with an average of 113.
Long term supporters will remember the previous holder of this record, Brad Rasool who scored 535 runs in second grade in 2006-2007 season with two scores of 201 and 236 in consecutive weeks. He then followed this with 151 in Poidevin Gray. Needless to say Brad “The dazzler” didn’t play second grade again.
That doesnt diminish the performance of Josh who batted in the top order 10 times and had 5 not outs including a fine score of 117 in the opening round. Josh also played four first grade matches during the season and also scored a fine century in Poidevin Gray.
Well done Josh.

Nathan Doyle and Josh Claridge had a partnership of 225 for the 4th wicket in the match vs Sutherland on December 15. Nathan scored 129 off 123 balls and Josh 10Nathan and Josh were only 8 runs behind the highest ever partnership for any wicket in PG’s of 231 between Steve Colley and Reece Bombas in 2008 against Northern Districts.

Hat trick by Matt Wright
In the second grade match vs Hawkesbury on November 23 Matt Wright bowled the well set No. 6 Hawks batsman for 68 to make the score 6 for 197 at Chatswood Oval. The next batsman was Chris De Kretzer who of course had played a number of seasons with Gordon before moving over to the Hawks. Matt had played a lot of cricket with Chris and was naturally keen to get his wicket. Straight through the gate and bowled. The next batsman didn’t have a chance as Matt aimed a very straight ball at his pads and the umpire did the rest. Matt then took the last wicket a few balls later and the Hawks were all out for 203. Gordon went on to win the match with 3 for 205. The webmaster happened to be there with his camera and the rest is history.
