Randwick Petersham crowned Kingsgrove Sports T20 Cup champions

Randwick Petersham have secured a record fifth NSW Premier Cricket first-grade Twenty20 title, chasing down Gordon’s total in front of a home crowd at Coogee Oval on Sunday. Big Bash League superstar, Daniel Sams, collected a wicket with the first ball of the match before going on to claim a rare hat-trick, dismissing Gordon’s fourth, fifth and eighth batsmen in consecutive deliveries.

Gordon’s Axel Cahlin showcased his explosive hitting ability, plundering three 6s before his innings came to an end on 38 runs (27 balls), whilst James Newton top-scored for the Stags, adding 39 runs from 28 deliveries to elevate the visitors total to 8/152 after 20 overs.

Randwick Petersham enjoyed a fast start to their run-chase, as Brisbane Heat recruit Jack Wood, launched two 4s and two 6s within the opening overs. However, Gordon’s Matthew Wright would end Wood’s innings with a catch off his own bowling.

Daniel Sams returned to the crease with bat in hand and expectation aplenty, and together with Sydney Thunder teammate, Alex Ross, unleashed a barrage of powerful shots, sending the Stag’s bowling attack to all parts of the beachside ground.

Five maximums, four 4s and a 65-run partnership later, Sams (42) and Ross (43) would fall to Matthew Wright (3-32), bringing in-form Cricket Ireland Overseas Scholarship recipient, Jake Egan and skilled all-rounder and Randy Petes captain, Riley Ayre, to the crease.

Egan dispatched two deliveries onto the adjacent street, before Ayre, fittingly, executed a crisp pull shot to the boundary, sealing grand final victory and completing an undefeated short-format campaign for Randwick Petersham.
