Player Profile #3
Name: Luke Alexander Blackaby
Place of Birth: Kent, UK
Favourite food: Steak
Favourite music: Any pop music and my guilty pleasure is a ballad
Hobbies: Golf, football (soccer) and traveling to new places
Secret talent: making a good barista style coffee
Most annoying teammate: That’s a tricky one, being English. I don’t want to make any more enemies. So I’ll pass on that one.
Best cricketing memory:
Playing at Lords was pretty special, from walking through the long room, taking the field, to the most ridiculous lunch you’ll ever have at a cricket match.
Something interesting about you that few people know: I have a cricket coaching company in Kent that’s been running for nearly 8 years.
How did your cricket career begin?
Playing ‘Kwik Cricket’ at my local club Holmesdale in Kent aged 7.
Describe your cricketing journey.
I represented Kent CCC from u10s through to 2nd Xl team for a few matches. I then played 6 first class matches with Durham University and played second team cricket for Northants and the MCCU for a couple of seasons. During this time I played for Sevenoaks Vine in the Kent Premier league and then had 2 seasons in the Newcastle first grade league here in Australia. Over the last few years I played at my boyhood club, Holmesdale. Before moving to Sydney in September last year and joining Gordon.
Best moment with the stags: Beating NDs chasing 210 down on a tricky track.
What are your strengths as a player?
With the bat, understanding my game and adapting to the game situation. With the ball, nailing a yorker. In general, I love a good contest.
Who are your favourite cricketers? Why?
Ben Stokes, selfless cricketer who plays for the team, to the situation and of course a match winner.
Who do you hate facing in the nets? Saggers, loves a bumper in the fading light
What is the funniest thing you’ve seen or heard on a cricket field?
Probably a guy I played with once before putting a phone on loud in the front pad of a teammate and then calling it whilst the bowler was running in to bowl at him.
