Bill Havercroft, long time member and past player for the Club passed away on 3rd August, 2025 following a few weeks in North Shore Hospital.
Bill, and his brother John, came across from Western Australia and started playing with Gordon in 1958-59. They played mainly in the Colts teams, John an all-rounder and Bill mainly a medium pace bowler, although in latter years Bill tried hard to improve his batting, once opening the batting. Bill took over 50 wickets in 1961-62 and 62-63 seasons. He played through to 1965-66 season until business and travel took over.
He and his wife were ardent supporters of the Club and could often be seen at Chatswood Oval watching 1st Grade during past seasons. They enjoyed Club social activities particularly the gatherings of past players. One memorable dinner Bill turned up in a pair of specially made Gordon tartan trousers. A Gordon for me!
RIP Bill.
