Geoff Hickman has stepped down from his role as Club President, a role he served in from 2015-2021, to take on the role of Chair of Selectors for the 2021-22 season.
The 1981-82 Second Grade Report said about new recruit Geoff Hickman “…and was displaying the benefits of consistent hard work at training all season and a determination never to give up during a game.” Geoff maintained this attitude throughout his playing career and has approached all the other duties he has performed at the club over the past 40 years in a similar fashion.
His first season as a player with the senior club was 1981-82, having enjoyed a number of fruitful years with the West Pymble CC. He immediately impressed everyone with his great attitude and work ethic as he immersed himself in all things Gordon. The following year he was part of the 3rd Grade Premiership team and he debuted in 1st Grade in 1984-85.
‘Hicko’ achieved much success with his very tight medium-fast bowling and dogged, determined batting, claiming 332 wickets in all grades and he was a member of the 1st Grade Premiership teams in 1989-90 and 1990-91. He captained lower grade teams and did a wonderful job in that capacity, just missing out on a 2nd Grade Premiership in 1992-93.
In his time as an administrator, Geoff has served as President, Honorary Secretary and Honorary Treasurer, being the only person in the club’s history to have held all three of these Executive positions. He also served as Delegate to the SCA and as a member of the Executive Committee for many years. Hicko was even a member of the SCA Judiciary for a while! He has performed these duties calmly and capably, at all times putting the club first. Geoff’s great service was recognised in 2008 when he was made a Life Member of the club.
Although he will no longer be the President, Geoff will not be lost to Gordon. He will remain on the Executive Committee and has been appointed Chairman of Selectors for the upcoming season.
Thank you and well done, Geoff. We look forward to many more enjoyable years with the Stags!
