The Stags have a proud heritage of producing cricketers who have represented at International level. A brief biography of our most recent international representatives appears below.
Matt Parkinson
Matt Parkinson is an English leg-spinner who plays for Lancashire. ‘Parky’ played the 2017-18 season for the Stags as our overseas pro, taking 21 wickets at an average of 37.8 in First Grade and 5 wickets at the remarkable average of 2.5 in the Poidevin-Grey competition. Matt has represented England in T20, ODI and Test cricket, making his international debut in a T20 against New Zealand in November 2019 and his Test debut at Lords in June 2022. In an international career that has just begun, he had taken 13 wickets as of June 2022.
Mason Crane
Mason Crane is an English leg-spinner who plays for Hampshire. Mason played for the Stags as our overseas pro in the 2016-17 season, winning the Bill O’Reilly medal for MVP and was selected to play for New South Wales, becoming the first overseas player to play for our state since Imran Khan in 1984. He had taken 124 first class wickets as of June 2022. Mason made his T20 debut for England against South Africa in June 2017 and made his Test debut in the fifth Test against Australia in January 2018, dismissing Usman Khawaja to claim his maiden Test wicket.

Adam Gilchrist
Adam Gilchrist is widely regarded as the greatest ‘keeper-batsman ever to play the game. Growing up on the North Coast of NSW, Gilchrist moved to Sydney, representing the Stags in the 1990-91 season. With NSW ‘keeper Phil Emery also a Stag, Gilly moved to Northern Districts and then to Western Australia to further his career. He represented Australia in T20, ODI and Test cricket, making his international debut against South Africa in an ODI in October 1996. In 92 Tests, Gilchrist scored 5,448 runs at 47.60, including 17 Test centuries. He took 354 catches behind the stumps and 37 stumpings. Gilly scored 9,038 runs in 268 ODI matches at 38.69, including 15 centuries, also claiming 386 catches and 50 stumpings.
Matt Nicholson
Matt Nicholson is an Australian fast bowler and lower order batsman, who grew up in St Leonards, Sydney. ‘Nicho’ played for the Stags from 1992-2009, claiming 228 wickets at an average of 17.58. Matt was the Australian under-19 player of the year in 1992-93. He played over 100 first class matches for New South Wales, Western Australia, Northamptonshire and Surrey, claiming 377 wickets at 29.15 runs per wicket and scoring 2504 runs at an average of 20.69. His career, which was hampered by injury, was highlighted by his selection to play one Test match against England at the MCG in 1998. He claimed 4 wickets at an average of 28.75 in the Boxing Day Ashes Test.
The Stags are privileged to have had the services of Nicho as our fast bowling coach for the past few seasons.
Trevor Chappell
Trevor Chappell has one of the most famous surnames in international cricket. Overshadowed by his illustrious brothers Ian and Greg, Trevor was an exceptional all-round cricketer in his own right. In a long and successful First Class career, Trevor represented South Australia, Western Australia and New South Wales, scoring 4,049 runs and taking 59 wickets. Trevor played for the Stags upon moving from Western Australia to New South Wales. He made his ODI debut against New Zealand in 1980 and his Test debut against England in June 1981. Trevor had limited success in his 3 Test matches, scoring 79 runs. He had more success in his 20 ODIs, scoring 229 runs, with one International century and claiming 19 wickets at 28.3 runs apiece.
